Description

Created through meticulous examination of the celebrated copper-panel '60s-era VOX AC15 amps, the AC15 Hand-Wired is a 15W tube combo amp with two 12AX7 preamp tubes, two EL84 power tubes, and one 12" Celestion Greenback speaker. With the iconic top-boost circuit onboard with dedicated high and low inputs, this compact amp offers classic vintage tones.

Along with the top-boost input section, this amp also offers a normal input section with high and low inputs, a preamp volume knob, and bright and boost switches, which only affect this input section. Further tone-shaping controls on the AC15 Hand-Wired include 2-band EQ control (Bass and Treble) and preamp volume for the top-boost input section, a reverb control knob for the integrated spring reverb tank, and a master volume control for dialing in the perfect amount of drive at any volume. The output transformer and power supply have been redesigned for vintage-correct compression and sag. The cabinet features a thinner material to match the expansive midrange of the inspiration. Extra connections include a footswitch input, an external speaker output, and a series FX loop. The AC15 Hand-Wired includes a VFS1 footswitch and a power cable.

A Richer Midrange, a Stronger Push

At the core of the AC15’s voice lies the EL84 power section and a critical detail: the way the phase inverter begins to distort as the amp is pushed. This adds subtle, musical harmonics that define the VOX sound, different from typical preamp gain. That signature character is all here, enhanced by the Celestion Greenback’s faster breakup and throatier midrange.

The amp’s power supply reproduces the original 1963 sag response, delivering natural compression and touch sensitivity without the noise or instability of vintage models. Every nuance in your playing translates through the Greenback’s dynamic response, from glassy cleans to saturated British roar.

Custom Transformers and a Responsive Cabinet

A hand-wound output transformer reproduces the original midrange growl and harmonic layering, while the 12mm birch ply cabinet construction delivers authentic resonance. The slightly looser low end and softer highs of the Greenback speaker complement this perfectly, offering a tone that's warm, bold, and easy to drive.

Two Channels, Iconic VOX Voice

The AC15 Hand-Wired offers the two channels that have shaped the sound of VOX over the decades:

Normal Channel: delivers warm, thick tones, with a Bright switch for added clarity
Top Boost Channel: Classic VOX chime and drive, now with slightly tamed highs for more control

Unique to the AC15 in this series, the Boost switch increases gain and adds a rich, midrange growl that pushes the Greenback speaker beautifully. Whether clean or cranked, this amp stays harmonically rich and expressive under your fingers.

Tube-Driven Spring Reverb Refined

The onboard spring reverb is powered by its own dedicated tube circuit, with a separate output transformer to ensure proper impedance. The result is a rich, present reverb that blends smoothly with your tone, controlled via Level and Tone knobs and footswitchable for easy bypass.

Transparent, Pedalboard-Friendly FX Loop

The FET-buffered effects loop is designed for transparency, preserving your core tone while integrating delay, reverb, and modulation pedals cleanly, even when the amp is pushed. And when not needed, it can be fully bypassed for a direct signal path.

Stage-Ready Power and Versatility

Powered by a pair of EL84 tubes for 15W of British tube tone, the AC15 Hand-Wired Greenback version is perfect for both studio and small to mid-size stage use. The earlier breakup of the Greenback speaker makes it easier to hit the sweet spot at lower volumes, while rear-panel outputs allow connection to extension cabs or attenuators.
