Description

Provide your commercial spaces with powerful 2-way sound and a sleek look with the Control 424LP from JBL, a ceiling-mounted, low-profile loudspeaker for restricted plenum spaces with a 4" woofer and a coaxially mounted 0.75" soft-dome tweeter. With up to 240W peak power handling and JBL-exclusive CRBI tech for highly consistent coverage, this loudspeaker can handle a wide range of spaces.

The 30W multitap transformer supports 70 or 100V operation for distributed systems, or the transformer can be bypassed for direct, high-impedance 16-ohm operation. In 16-ohm mode the loudspeaker can be paralleled with up to four speakers (on a 4-ohm rated amp channel). The loudspeaker offers an extremely wide 130° conical coverage angle, which when combined with the CRBI tech, allows you to use fewer speakers in installations. Connectivity is via 2-pin block connectors, and the dog-ears sport top and side cable entry options for a flush look. Stylish and refined, this subwoofer is designed to fit well in modern spaces and features a magnetically attached bezel-free grille. An IP33 rating ensures solid protection from dust and light water sprays, enabling use in a wide range of environments. The Control 424LP includes a white rounded grille, a C-ring, and tile rails for fast installation.

Low-Profile Design for Tight Spaces

The low-profile back can extends less than 4" deep above the ceiling, allowing placement in especially shallow above-ceiling (plenum) spaces. The wide-diameter back can provides more bass than other low-profile speakers.

The sound character of Control 424LP closely matches with Control 424C/T, which has a deeper back can. This allows intermixing of the two models into systems as needed, based on the ceiling clearance above each speaker location.

Superior Sonic Performance

The Coplanar Radiation Boundary Integrator technology, or CRBI, delivers an especially smooth sound character that remains consistent, clear, and pleasant across a wide coverage area. It reduces on-axis hot spots and off-axis cold spots and improves the listening experience for users as they move throughout a space. This enhanced coverage results in fewer speakers, amplifier channels, and project costs required to cover a space.

2-Way Coaxial Drivers

The 4" low-frequency driver is acoustically loaded via the JBL-exclusive CRBI loading plate, increasing both efficiency and sensitivity for higher output. The CRBI’s unique L-contour radial apertures provide smooth low-frequency response and a tight, impactful sound.

A coaxially mounted 0.75" soft-dome tweeter provides high-fidelity sound character, with a neodymium magnet assembly and Kapton voice coil former providing durability. The drivers are designed for long-term reliability, and built-in protection circuitry helps to prevent damage from the occasional overload.

Versatile Configuration Options

The direct input’s high 16-ohm impedance allows connecting up to 4 speakers in parallel on a 4-ohm rated amplifier channel. For distributed systems, the transformer is designed for exceptionally low saturation, even at high drive levels, providing a top-quality, low-distortion distributed sound character.

The optimized ported enclosure delivers warm, smooth bass response. Low-frequency output can be further augmented with the addition of a Control 419CS/T or another Control Contractor subwoofer model.

Efficient and Flexible Installation

Various Control 400 Enhanced Coverage Series mounting enhancements improve installation repeatability and safety while reducing installation time. Redesigned terminal covers provide both top and side cable entry ports and can be secured without tools thanks to captive hand screws. The captive dog-ear design is extremely reliable and works with a wide range of ceiling thicknesses.

Refined, Modern Aesthetic

Full-face magnetic grilles provide a sleek, refined look to meet the sensibilities of modern architectural design. They are equipped with safety tethers, which mount right into the baffle to ensure peace of mind. Optional black and square accessory grilles are also available to empower added design versatility.
